    They smile at each other. They all settle back into easy conversation over a couple of drinks. They are all enjoying getting to know Helena in such a relaxed way, having had more formal interactions with her in the past, and they are very much enjoying spending time with Tina.

    Alice turns to Helena.

    (Alice) I’ve seen you a bit here recently Helena, with different people. You’ve been having fun?

    Helena raises her eyebrows and laughs.

    (Helena) I have been. There’s no judgement in that question is there Alice?

    Alice laughs.

    (Alice) God, of course not. Jealousy maybe, I’d love to find it all as effortless as you seem to

    Helena smiles and touches her arm affectionately.

    (Helena) Well, truth be told it’s been getting a bit tiresome. Something more serious is looking more and more appealing to me

    Helena shrugs and Alice nods. Alice turns to Tina.

    (Alice) Have you had serious relationships Tina?

    (Bette) Alice!

    Bette frowns at her, shaking her head and mouthing ”what the fuck”, and Shane and Dana make eye contact with each other and both roll their eyes. Shane turns to Alice.

    (Shane) Smooth segue Al

    Alice shrugs.

    (Alice) I’m just curious

    She turns back to Tina.

    (Alice) You’ve had partners?

    Tina raises her eyebrows and smiles.

    (Tina) I have

    (Helena) And you happen to be sitting next to one of them right now Alice

    Alice looks to Helena and raises her eyebrows.

    (Alice) Really? Interesting

    Shane sighs as she has a sip of beer.

    (Shane) Is it Al?

    Alice looks back to Tina.

    (Alice) How long were you two together?

    Tina looks between Alice and Helena uncertainly.

    (Tina) A while

    (Alice) Weeks? Months? Years?

    Helena leans towards Alice and raises her eyebrows.

    (Helena) Years

    (Alice smiles) Really?

    Tina smiles at Helena and shakes her head.

    (Tina) Barely two years, and we were babies

    Helena shrugs.

    (Helena) Still years. Don’t take that away from me, it’s my longest relationship to date

    (Alice) Why did you break up?

    (Dana) Oh my God Alice

    2. Also very intrigued re: Helena’s response, “She’s not emotionally unavailable, by the way. So far from it actually. That’s the wrong description of her”. Hmm!

    4. This story is very intriguing… I’m just not sure about these two. It is obvious to everyone that these two are very much into each other… their behavior is very much into each other… but they keep going with this façade that this is just enjoying each other in the moment with no attachments and no commitments and no promises of any future. I do not know how much longer this can continue. Whether they admit it or not, they are truly connected and a sudden unavailability of one or the other would be devastating to both of them. So why not face the truth and admit this each other? This is a game at this point… time to chunk the rules of engagement and just be the people they are.

    7. It’s obvious they are both playing a game to protect their feelings for each other. Something’s coming up that will make them both admit how they truly feel. I really like this story a lot.
