Bette closed her eyes as the tears dropped down her cheeks. It was evident to Tina that her words had cut Bette deeply. She immediately felt bad but there was no going back.

Tina: I’m sorry.

Tina immediately pulled Bette into her.

Bette: Oh Tina.

Bette said crying in Tina’s arms.

Tina: I’m so sorry Bette, I know this is hard for you too, that was insensitive of me to say that.

Bette: I just want our lives back.

Tina: I know. Me too.

Bette continued to weep, she had been holding in so much, it was only a matter of time before she really broke down. Tina closed her eyes as she held Bette. She knew Bette was right, as much as she wanted Angelica, there was no way the police was going to turn her over to them. This was just a horrible situation that they were caught up in, but it was time to move on and face the reality of their lives.

Back in the room…

The deputy helped Kit off the floor. He sat her down in a nearby chair and handed her a glass of water.

Deputy: You okay?

Kit: Yeah.

Deputy: Your daughter? That’s not possible.

Kit: She’s my daughter, trust me I think I would know.

Deputy: But her parents are dead.

Kit: Adoptive parents.

Deputy: Wait what? Okay let’s start from the beginning. I’m sorry but under these circumstances, I’m going to need you to step into my office.

Kit: I’m under arrest?

Deputy: No, but if what you are saying is true, this case just took a major turn. I’m gonna need to ask you some questions.

Kit: Okay, but I need to go to her.

Deputy: I’m sorry but I can’t let you go near her until we get to the bottom of what is happening here, for all I know, you can just be saying that to get her back to the Porter-Kennards.

Kit: You motherfucka, do you think I will make all this up?

Deputy: I’m not letting you near her, bottom line. Until I know the truth.

Kit: Fine. I will tell you everything.

Deputy: Right this way.

They left the room and went to the deputy office. He sat down at his desk and took out a notebook and pen to write down all the information.
