Dear Diary—Chapter 1
She sighed and turned the page to the next entry:
September 1, 1991
Dear Diary,
I went to the football game tonight by myself. Well Mom dropped me off but I sat by myself. I wanted to go because Bette was cheering at the first home football game of the season . Of course she was not only a cheerleader, she was also on the basketball team and the cross country/track team. She’s very athletic and very popular. I didn’t watch any of the football game. I couldn’t even tell you who won. I just focused on Bette leading the cheers. She looked so cute in her cheerleading outfit. So toned and her mocha skin perfect. No tan required as she was already naturally tanned. Her girlfriend Marissa is on the cheerleading squad with her. They were making goo-goo eyes at one another in between cheers. Oh Diary, the unfairness of it all. To be so into someone that all you see is that person but they don’t even see you or know that you share the same air that they breathe.
When the game was over I waited at the front for Mom to pick me up and I saw Bette and Marissa heading to the parking lot holding hands. It gets harder and harder watching my obsession carry on knowing I can never be with her. I wish someone would turn this ugly duckling into a beautiful swan so I could turn Bette Porter’s head and capture her heart.
Well Diary, I know I have rambled on and on about Bette. But at least you let me get my feelings out and it helps. Until next time Diary. Goodnight.
Bette couldn’t read anymore as she was on the verge of shedding more tears and closed the diary. She got up and went into her bedroom and put the diary in the top drawer of her nightstand and closed it back. She sat on the edge of the bed trying to stop herself from falling for the girl that had fallen for her. It was silly she thought. But she couldn’t stop thinking about this person.
”Get a grip Porter. You can’t feel something for this girl you don’t even know. She is a woman now, probably married with a dozen kids running around. Snap out of it” She grumbled as she threw herself down on her bed.
