    LENOX HILL HOSPITAL-3

”Dr. Torres, I repeat, this is not the way to talk about it, when you’ve calmed down, we will.” Tina tried again but Callie was in front of the buttons so Tina raised her eyes in the air, huffing and walked out the door towards the stairs, but Torres was right behind her.

”I will not allow you to humiliate me in my hospital, do you understand? You do not humiliate me just because you are Helena’s fuck buddy”

That was enough for Tina to snap, that should not have been said, not there in front of the entire hospital. That was not why she was in that job, Tina deserved it, she had studied and sweated to become a neurosurgeon.

”No one here has judged you personally even though I could do it you know given the precedents Dr. Torres? Not everyone is like you. I am a loyal person, qualities that you do not have.” Tina was poisonous, she also thought about Bette and her past ”I told Peggy that you did your best, but it was not enough, next time you will do better or you will learn from those who know more than you.”

Having said that Callie felt petrified, Tina had classified her as disloyal, dishonest and incompetent at the same time, that was enough to make her feel really small, maybe she had exaggerated, maybe she had been wrong to approach that conversation in that way.

When Tina realized that Callie was out of the game and the stares around them were becoming too persistent she quickly left for the stairs. She hated these situations here in the workplace, the arguments, the gossip, Peggy was right about Torres.

Despite this incident Tina made it to the end of the day, once she had changed and taken off her work clothes she finally decided to stop by and bring Bette an orange pudding, she had heard from Helena that she loved it and Tina had taken two more for lunch.

She didn’t know why it had come so naturally to her to do this to Bette but now it was just past dinner time in the hospital and Bette would have liked the pudding.

She knocked cautiously on the door, hoping that the brunette wasn’t asleep yet and was glad to know that she wasn’t, Bette was curled up on the bed with her glasses on while she watched the TV, the only light from the bedside table on in the dark room.

    Comments

    1. Bette has been in the hospital for 2 years. I would assume that she and Callie broke up before she was admitted as a patient. Callie was seeing Mark before she broke up with Bette, so I would think that pregnancy would be inevitable. Bette’s situation seems hopeless at this point. It appears that her only hope is a transplant. She is unhappy about her physical condition and her future prospects. That does not lend itself to improving her health. And Callie’s announced pregnancy does not make Bette’s life easier. Tina is trying to be her friend, but Bette’s attitude does not make it easy. Life for Bette is spiraling from bad to worse. In Bette’s words, she needs a miracle.
