Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

Bette chuckled. She pulled on his arm to hurry him as he continued to walk leisurely. Cade had become active in the art market over the last two years and was beginning to put together an interesting collection of contemporary Chinese and Asian art. He was an eager listener of lectures on art whenever he was in New York, and found a million ways to probe Bette for any tips on what he should be looking for. For him to be bored by an art lecture was unusual. I’ll bet even money Rian would make him sit up, though!

“Speed up, Burton! I want good seats for this one,” she cajoled him. “I promise you won’t be disappointed.”

“If I am, you have to promise me you’ll give me the lowdown on Wei-wei the way you’ve been hinting you’d do for the past two years. Deal?”

She shot him a broad smile.

“And if you aren’t, then you have to promise me that you’ll give me several hours of uninterrupted talk time with your chief… deal?”

He returned her smile and offered his hand. “Shake on it.”

She laughed and shook his hand.

“So what are you waiting for, slow-poke? Get a move on, already!” he pulled her hand as he suddenly walked briskly towards the double doors of the auditorium, chuckling.

Rian was introduced soon after most of the audience had taken their seats. A murmur spread across the student section when Rian stepped to the podium. They’d been expecting her partner, who was in her mid-fifties and liked to wear her salt-and-pepper hair cropped short. The woman who strode confidently to the podium was not the woman in their handouts.

“Hi everyone, sorry to disappoint you. My colleague had an emergency to deal with concerning one of the exhibits we’re staging, so I’m subbing for her today.” Rian started, as she scanned the room and noted the openly questioning faces, especially amongst the students.

She pulled the mic from the microphone holder and stepped away from the podium, sweeping hair that had stuck to her neck back with a hand that clutched a few papers. She fluffed her hair up also, in an unconscious gesture. The blonde streaks in her dark brown hair that fell gracefully in soft waves down to the midpoint of her back glinted under the lights that shone on her. In her high heels, seafoam wrap dress that had a lower neckline than usual, and chunky multi-colored choker, she looked every inch the sexy schoolteacher of any teenager’s dreams. “And I have her notes, so I assure you the materials are all here!”

    1. So pleased to read your story!

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.

Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.

As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.

    3. I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you

    4. Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
      I realized, it will happen.
      The complete constellation.
