Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

“I’m having salmon sushi, please,” Angie announced, without glancing at the menu. The waiter smiled, “Of course poppet. I had that written down already. How many pieces tonight?”
Maybe she’ll say something about it later.

Savannah, the morning of the same day
Bette strode to the group of men standing by one of the picture windows that had a view of the Savannah River.
They turned to greet her as she approached. “Oh, hi Bette!” “Here at last.” “I bet something big happened that kept her busy today …” several from the group greeted Bette.
Bette chuckled and accepted a glass of Merlot one of them offered her. “Hi everyone! Sorry I missed the first lecture. It’s a good thing I’m only here as an observer, huh?”
A fit, balding man on the short side, dressed in jeans and a reddish pull-over with faded “Harvard” lettering in front laughed aloud. “Typical Bette. This is supposed to be one of those weekends where we get to relax, remember? I think I advised you the last time …. in Omaha, was it? … that you’re supposed to at least feign some interest in the thing your fellow donors would like to show off to you? Mix and mingle? And not work?”
“You said that, Mark? You?!” another one in the circle, who was clad in well-pressed dark grey wool slacks and a crisp white open-necked shirt, exclaimed mockingly.
Bette joined in the teasing laughter.
“Hope you’ll excuse me and Cade here … more work-related stuff, I’m afraid.” She pulled on the elbow of the tall, dark-haired man she walked up next to. “Cade, if you don’t mind …”
Cade laid his glass on the tray of a passing waiter, imperceptibly straightened his shoulders, and buttoned the lightweight grey suit jacket that seemed molded to his lean frame. He shrugged at the others as they teased him that “yet again, Cade gets to walk away with Bette!” and gave her a devilish grin. “Of course, I won’t mind, Bette!”
She gave him a friendly punch on his arm when he slipped his arm around her waist possessively and gave it a squeeze as they walked away. “That was for the others,” he said with another grin when she pretended to frown at him. He withdrew his arm and then crooked his elbow.

So pleased to read your story!
I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)
That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.
Thanks for the update!
Just Bette and Tina please!!!
It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.
Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.
As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.
Enjoyed it. Thought TJ was headed for a bad fall. Who’s this Kaci? No drama for Bette and Tina please. Thanks
Sky loved the chapter. Love to read more of Bette and Tina but your on a good path.
I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you
Thanks for all your comments don70! Am glad you and others enjoy reading about these characters and am happy you find the different storylines they inhabit interesting. Please do continue to let me know your thoughts as this story progresses – based on actual places and people – as we explore what it means to love, and be stripped bare even if fully-clothed, before another.
Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
I realized, it will happen.
The complete constellation.
