Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

“I know, you flirt. You gotta stop with all that and grow up, Burton.” But she slipped her forearm through the offered elbow.
“Must I? By the way, I’m at least five years older than you are, you know. I don’t know why you’re telling me to grow up …” he took her almost empty wine goblet from her and held onto it until a passing waiter drew closer, and he then handed the goblet to him.
“Thanks. So what? Proves my point …” she argued. They got to a secluded corner. Cade gently released her arm and took several steps back.
“As much as I’d like to continue this, Bette, I assume you didn’t pull me away from the guys to protest my flirting ways …”
“You’re right, Cade, your wit and banter are boring to me. Seriously, though, you know that I came to Savannah to talk to your chief of staff.”
“And you will.”
“So where is she? She didn’t make it tothe dinner last night, and she’s not around this morning”
“She had to go to Atlanta yesterday afternoon, and didn’t return in time. She had to stay overnight in Atlanta. It’s her own private stuff. Something to do with her daughter’s dad.”
Bette pursed her lips in a half-frown half-smile. She nodded her understanding.
“But she should be getting into Savannah in an hour or so, and would most likely be at the hotel shortly after. You can talk to her …I dunno … maybe, tonight?”
“I was planning to leave on the evening flight back to New York, though. Christie’s sick and Tina could have her hands full with the kids, plus goings-on at work…”
Cade frowned slightly, tapping his lips.
“Let me think of something …”
Just then the lights in the auditorium started to blink and a voice over the speakers announced that the next lecture scheduled today was about to start.
“C’mon, let’s head in and listen to my friend. She’s the next speaker. You can think while we listen. But I doubt that you’ll get to think much. I’ve heard her lecture a few times. Very captivating. And I’m not just speaking as a friend.”
“Oh, is that right? I hope she is an interesting speaker. The first one put us darn near to sleep. I didn’t think a talk about current art could ever be boring, to me, but this one was a snoozer.”

So pleased to read your story!
I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)
That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.
Thanks for the update!
Just Bette and Tina please!!!
It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.
Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.
As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.
Enjoyed it. Thought TJ was headed for a bad fall. Who’s this Kaci? No drama for Bette and Tina please. Thanks
Sky loved the chapter. Love to read more of Bette and Tina but your on a good path.
I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you
Thanks for all your comments don70! Am glad you and others enjoy reading about these characters and am happy you find the different storylines they inhabit interesting. Please do continue to let me know your thoughts as this story progresses – based on actual places and people – as we explore what it means to love, and be stripped bare even if fully-clothed, before another.
Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
I realized, it will happen.
The complete constellation.
