Bette had been half watching a crime show and half dozing – she really needed a check-up with her doctor before the wedding. She was feeling wrung out and she knew with her medical background that she needed to take extra care of herself. Tina had vanished from lying beside her – having Tina so close had made her feel so much better. Bette missed Tina being beside her – especially given things had been tough between them. Maybe all couples had shaky times like this before their weddings – especially as this was their second marriage. Their first wedding had been insane -nothing about this second marriage was as high pressure or crazed.
“Oh – you are awake “
Bette looked up to see Tina come back into the room and re-take her place beside Bette
“That implies I was formerly NOT awake “
“You were not “Tina replied “You went out like a light after dinner “
“I could argue with you but it is easier to just agree with you “
Tina kissed Bette on the cheek “Good idea babe”
“Where did you vanish to?”
“The artist formerly known as Prisoner 54321 came in “
“She was asleep “
“She was – but she wanted us to know that her tooth had come out “
Tina gestured to the small tooth on a tissue on the coffee table
“And she felt the need to share this – why?”
“So we could both sleep easy knowing it is not loose anymore “
“And does she think we were?”
“No idea – she has been fiddling with it for two damn days – I am not surprised it surrendered in the end and dropped out”
Bette smiled “Does she expect a financial contribution from the tooth fairy?”
“She is not that innocent – but some financial reward is expected “
Bette laughed “I bet she does – are we giving in on this?”
“I think one of us probably will “
“Meaning?” Bette challenged raising an eyebrow.
“No meaning – I just imagine that one of us will end up slipping her a few dollars “
“Is she okay though – no pain or blood?”
Tina shook her head “If there had been any pain or blood most of Manhattan would have heard about it “
Bette moved to get more comfortable and put her arm around Tina
“Are you okay? – you look done in “
“It’s always a busy time for me “
“All the same “Tina said wondering if Bette would agree to having a day off at this busy time of the year if she asked
“Yes?”
“Take tomorrow off – I will drop the princess off at school and we can stroll around the shops – do some shopping – have a nice lunch and maybe spend a couple of hours just enjoying some adult time”
Bette liked the idea but work was crazy at the moment – but what was the point of being the boss and rich if you couldn’t spend time with the love of your life.
“Tell you what “
“What?”
“I will take tomorrow off if you come into work with me on Thursday and I give James the day off “
Tina pulled a face “Only one snag with that “
“What ?”
“I will never grow the facial hair in time “
Bette laughed and rested her hand on Tina’s face as they kissed
“So do we have a deal?”
“Of course “
Bette kissed Tina again “I will go and ring him – is Angie still awake?”
“Probably “
“I will go and see the patient – without my wallet and ring James “

It has taken me several days to read this book and its many chapters. I want to say that I love your Bette and Tina. I am thrilled to read a story in which these two women mature in their relationship and in their lives. I love how you have them teach each other how to communicate and how essential it is for their relationship. I am also impressed on how you present the aspect that the group was far to involved with each other’s lives to be healthy. Alice simply had no boundaries. I think Shane did and maybe even Dana did. Jenny was just crazy and Alice took no responsibility for her own actions and decisions. The biggest surprise was Kit. I guess that is what happens when you allow addictions to control your life.
This was a wonderful story and well written. I have really enjoyed it from front to back. I believe that Tina still has a bit more maturing to do but in time with Bette’s help she will get there. New York is truly a wonderful place for this family. Thank You for sharing this….I look forward to reading your other writings in the near future.
