“What’s wrong Tee?” Bette asked softly after a few minutes, and when Tina opened her eyes to look at her, Bette raised an eyebrow. Inviting. Tell me the eyebrow said, talk to me. She put her glass down and reached for Tina’s foot to offer a massage. Tina closed her eyes again and sighed, enjoying the touch of Bette’s strong hands, the hot water and the scent of the bath.
“It’s Eric”, she finally said, her eyes still closed. “Fucking perfect smile, white teeth, straight America, tiresome Eric…”
Bette paused for the slightest nanosecond but long enough for Tina to notice, she opened her eyes to study her wife, her head tilting to the side as they looked at each other. Bette waited, knowing there was more coming.
“Bette…?”
“Yes, Tee?”
“Do you remember the night we met?”
Surprised, Bette answered immediately. “Darling, I remember every second of the night we met. I remember my heart stopped when I first looked into your eyes. I remember how your hand felt so perfect in mine and that I never wanted to let it go. I knew I was holding it too long, but I didn’t care. I remember that. And I remember wanting to know everything about you, everything. What your favorite color was, did you sleep in the nude or in pajamas, did you sing in the shower. I wanted to know why you stiffened when Eric placed his hand on your back and, more importantly, why he didn’t seem to notice. I wanted to know if you shaved, what color your nipples were. I wanted to know how to make you laugh, what made you cry…. Do I remember that night? Baby, that night changed me”.
“You noticed that I stiffened when he put his hand on my back? You saw that? I never knew that…”
“I did. And your eyes narrowed, just a little. I saw that too. I was glad when you stayed with me and he went to talk to Catherine Opie, you seemed to relax a little…and that was enormously important to me although I didn’t know why. I just knew for a few glorious moments I had you to myself…”

I so agree with the other readers that You DEFINITELY have a wonderful way of explaining the word “intimacy”. I especially like how you’ve reminded us that it comes in levels and stages as our trust is released..

This comment cracked me up. I am finding it challenging writing the dialogue which is why you dont see me write multiple characters at once but I cant avoid it forever….
This is true intimacy….sharing of fears, dreams, memories and souls. This is really a hot chapter…..amazing that they made it through dinner… This is the Bette and Tina I imagined when the series finished 10 years ago. Actually this Bette and Tina are a bit more mature and closer in their relationship than they have ever been. Great writing….

this story answers so many questions that were left danglng in the show. B&T were really connected in season 6 and whewn B asked T to marry her we was like “Oh yeah baby, finally”!!!
Anyway, I loved that Bette confronted Tina how she (Tina) wasn’t trusting her to choose Tina over work. Bette really made monumental changes in how she approached her fears & insecurities. It was time for Tina to examine her responses too. And she did. She quickly apologised to Bette and sought forgiveness

Was just thinking about how marvelous it’s been to have your screenplay featuring our Tibette, and I’m really trying to imagine how you will fill in the blanks on Tina’s childhood. Will be interesting to learn whether or not Tee has siblings in your story and whether or not an Angelica is in the future.

Interesting idea Dumplin! I honestly didnt expect this story to go nine chapters but the words are still making their way to the page so I will keep writing. Tina is complicated, exploring her childhood and family might be a good segway to understanding her.
Out of curiousity, dont most stories on here have her with a sister?
Yes, so far Tina has had siblings. If I remember correctly, she had really cool sibs & fam in You Found Me by BnTinmyhead
