    Tina: That sounds delightful. I do not think I brought my swimsuit. Jill Biden: I’ll have my secretary have what you need by tomorrow morning.  Bette, do you need a suit as well?     Tina: That sounds delightful. I do not think I brought my swimsuit.

    Jill Biden: I’ll have my secretary have what you need by tomorrow morning.  Bette, do you need a suit as well?

    Bette:  Yes, I did not anticipate swimming.

    Jill Biden:  How about outdoor casual clothes? Do you have those?

    Tina:  No, I brought mostly business clothing.

    Bette: So, did I.  I was not anticipating much outdoor activities. I do have some indoor casual wear.

    Jill Biden picked up the phone and called her private secretary and asked her to come into the room.

    Jill:  This is Helena Peabody. She is my personal assistant and she will assist you with all your needs for this weekend. Helena, this is Bette Porter and Tina Kennard. They need a few clothing items to enjoy the weekend, could you make sure they have whatever they need. Just charge it to the First Lady’s personal account. And why don’t you show them to their rooms so they can freshen up and get ready for dinner. Ladies, why don’t you change into something more comfortable for dinner. We will probably be in jogging suits.  Oh, and Helena, after dinner, you can give these ladies a tour of residence. And Helena, please join us for dinner. Ask Mark to join us as well.

    Helena: Thank you, I will. Ladies, if you follow me, I’ll show you to your rooms.

    Bette and Tina stood and followed Helena out and turned to the right to down the hall though a double doorway which was another sitting room.

    Helena:  Ms. Porter, I believe you are in the Lincoln bedroom. This way.

    Tina: May I accompany you?

    Bette:  Oh sure, this is my first visit to the White House and I want to see everything.  I want to see your room as well.

    Helena:  Your luggage has been placed in the closet which is over there. And this way to the Lincoln bathroom and the Lincoln sitting area.  Now this area has a door to the East Sitting room.  Now shall we go on to the Queens bedroom?

    Tina:  Lead the way.

    Helena: Some First Ladies have chosen to have a separate bedroom from their husbands. This is the room which is the traditional First Ladies bedroom. Dr. Biden shares a bedroom with her husband and therefore this room is available for guest. However, the public has more familiarity with the Lincoln bedroom than the Queens bedroom.

      I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
      Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.

      I still can’t bear to think of them not being together!

        First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.

        From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?
