The Conversion

Bette: I am so glad to be out of those shoes. I know better than to fly across the country and wear heels like that.
Tina: Yes, I know what you mean. So, Bette where are you from?
Bette: I am originally from Philadelphia, but currently I am living just outside of Seattle Washington. But I have lived several places during the course of my life time – New York, Chicago, and LA. All the result of falling in love with someone and believing they were the one. Turned out, they weren’t.
Tina: Well, I guess as a writer, you can live almost anywhere.
Bette: So, what about you? Where are you from?
Tina: I was born in Phoenix, Arizona. I lived in Atlanta, Georgia, got my bachelor’s degree from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. I have lived in LA and I currently live in Austin Texas. I live in Austin as a result of my ex as well. However, he has found himself a younger woman and moved on with his life but not before I separated from him half his assets. I think that he thought that by living in Texas, he would have the upper hand when we went to court, however it just didn’t work out that way.
Bette: So, do you have a current love interest or partner?
Tina: No… I have been very involved in trying to get my book completed and out and it has taken all my time to research and write. I must not be as efficient as some writers are. I wonder how people are able to put out three and four books a year. I guess I just do not know the proper technique for doing that.
Bette: Well, I think it has more to do with what your subject is and who your editor is. And it also depends on the goal of the author and the publisher. Some publish books for the entertainment value and some publish to provide a documented record of what is known on their subject. You are more of the later and therefore it takes you a bit more time and effort. And the result is you produce a good quality book which can be relied upon by people not only today but for years to come. From what I have read of yours, your efforts and time are well reflected. You present your subjects as people and not as gods or demons as many people do.

Well, what a story, I really enjoyed it.
I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.
I still can’t bear to think of them not being together!
Thank you so much, a beautiful story.
I look forward to the next one.
Janice24,
First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?
Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…
OMG! How did I let this gem get past me. I loved every word. I would love to read something else from you, thank you so much for your talent.
OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
