It was around 3 o’clock we woke up from our nap. I love the feeling of have Bette’s arm around me. I eased up to get dressed in hopes that I would not wake her. But that was not to be. After we dressed, we went and had some coffee in the sitting room.
Tina: Did you sleep okay?
Bette: I sleep like a baby. You?
Tina: I fell asleep immediately and slept well. I only wish I slept that well at home.
Bette: Tina, about our conversation this morning. I know you said that you were sure that you wanted to explore a relationship with me. I believe you believe that now because you are here with me. I would like for you to return home and be with your friends and in your environment and the ask yourself if you are prepared to give that all up. Having a relationship may not mean giving everything up. But it could. You need to make that evaluation without me being present. If after some time of considering that, you feel the same way, then you and I will make some arrangements to get together. In the meantime, I’ll be as close as your cell phone.
Tina: But I AM sure.
Bette: Then tell me that after you have been home for a week or so. Tell me that after you have had dinner with Alice or one of your luncheons with your group of friends. You know, if you and I do manage to get together, there is a possibility you would leave Austin. Is that an acceptable premise? In that case, you would be basically starting your life over with all new contacts, all new support group such as doctors, insurance professionals, hair dresser, grocery store, car repair facilities and circle of friends. And if you stay in Austin, which is also a possibility, your friends may not be the same people you know now. What I am telling you is that you need to make an informed decision about this. If you and I start to date, it will change your life. You need to be aware of that. And one more thing. I will not hide who I am and I don’t believe that I could develop anything long term with someone who wants or needs to hide who they are. That too you would have to consider as well. Are you ready to allow the world to know that you are dating a woman? Tina, this is as big a decision in your life as you will ever made. This is bigger than marry Eric. For once you start to date women, it will not be something you can just erase and pretend didn’t happen. It will become a part of who you are. So, before you get involved with me, you need to look into your heart and know this is not just what you want but who you are.

I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.

First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?

OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website.
