The Conversion

Tina: Are you afraid to date me?
Bette: I want to date you. I want to be with you right this moment. But am I afraid? I am scared that I am going to fall head over heels for you and you are going to wake up one morning and say “well, that was fun, but that is just not who I am” or “what was I thinking that I could fall in love with a woman.” You see, I do not see you as a temporary diversion or a source of having a good time. I see you as being a potential relationship with a future and not a fly by night fantasy. Now, I cannot promise that you and I will become a long-term thing and neither can you. But we both need to at least look at the risk, know where the big stumbling blocks are; and agree that we at least have same goals and objectives before we start. We are not teenagers anymore. We do not have time to play games with our hearts. This is not as big a risk for me as it is for you. If I date you, only my private life will change. But if you date me, your entire world will change. And yes, that scares me. You live in the world you have created. And if you date me, you are creating something entirely new and different and that could mean you lose a lot of what you have already created. And that has to be your decision and solely your decision. I am ready to make this leap and see what happens. But, in good conscience, I cannot allow you to do this without looking at what potentially could be the result and allow you the time to think about what it could mean. If you are truly ready for these kinds of changes in your life, then we will proceed. If not, then we need to wait until you are ready.
Tina: I understand. You are not saying no. You are saying you want to wait until I fully consider the ramifications of dating a woman when I have only dated men in the past.
Bette: Yes. I want you to take your time and really think about it. You might even discuss it with your best friend. But be careful, some straight people are scared of gay people. They feel they are demons, or mentally ill, or just plain not normal. They do not understand what it means and therefore they would rather not associate with a gay person. And all of that results in a sort of prejudice which generally cannot be overcome with a conversation or two.

Well, what a story, I really enjoyed it.
I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.
I still can’t bear to think of them not being together!
Thank you so much, a beautiful story.
I look forward to the next one.
Janice24,
First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?
Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…
OMG! How did I let this gem get past me. I loved every word. I would love to read something else from you, thank you so much for your talent.
OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
