Tina: I hope so. I was hoping to do some more outdoor activities this afternoon. After all this is our last day here.

Bette:  Yeah, well, let’s see how you feel after lunch then we will make our agenda for the afternoon and evening. We need to confirm our flight schedule for tomorrow and our transportation schedule.

Tina: Yeah, and we need to pack too.

Bette then walked up to me at that moment and took my hand. She looked in my eyes and said:

Bette:  Tina, if I don’t get the opportunity, I want to tell you that I have enjoyed my time with you this weekend. I like you at a lot. I think that you and I are going to be good friends. And if circumstances were a bit different, I think we might even be more than good friends.

Tina: If circumstances were a bit different?

Bette:  Yeah, if you didn’t live in Austin and I didn’t live in Seattle.

Tina:  Bette, I am attracted to you. I’ve never said that to another woman.  Hell, I don’t think I’ve ever said that to a man either. You are a very special person… you have something about your personality and who you are that I find so damn attractive.

Bette:  Tina, I’m attracted to you too. I very much want to kiss you. But that would not be appropriate at the moment.

Tina: Bette, I want to kiss you as well.  But I’m a little scared to.

Bette: What are you frightened of?

Tina:  That you will reject me… that you do not find me to be your type and that given the fact that we may be working closely together in the future, that a kiss might make things awkward between us in the future. I am afraid that the attraction may just be something you might find silly and immature.

Bette then pulled me into a hug. And just held me for a moment.

Bette: Tina, I am attracted to you and if you are attracted to me, I would never dismiss that as frivolous and childlike. But I do have a question. Are you interested in exploring the possibilities of a relationship with me? Now before you answer, let me say that if the answer is yes, there are a whole lot of things you are going to have to consider. First and foremost, I am a woman. And a relationship with a woman is somewhat different than that with a man. The society sees it differently; your friends and family may see you differently; those you work with may see you differently. Some may feel you have deceived them as to who you are.  Are you ready for that? And if all of those answers are that they do not matter how they feel, you are going to follow your heart’s desire, then the next question is how we conduct a get acquainted period when we live so far apart? I can help you with the second part of the question; the logistics. But I cannot help you with the first question. You have to make that decision yourself within your own set of circumstances and your own tolerances. For me, I am ready to explore the possibilities of a relationship. You are more than attractive physically. You are attractive in your intellect, your approach to life, your sense of humor, your ability to relate to others, your ability to empathize with others and your willingness to cooperate and even sacrifice when circumstances are not ideal.  You are an impressive person Tina Kennard and yes, I would very much like to get to know you personally and intimately. But I would not ever attempt to make any move unless I know that is what you want also.
