The Conversion

Tina: Ahh… but it takes two to make a relationship.
Bette: And only one to tear it asunder. At any time, either one of us can decide not to proceed on. But it will take both of us committing to it and working at it to make a relationship succeed.
Tina: Nothing is easy is it.
Bette: No, but anything worth having is worth caring for, nurturing and working at to make it happen. Shall we return to the cabin. Dinner should be in an hour or so. We still need to pack. And we need to get our schedule for tomorrow.
Once I was at the cabin, I was a little sad that we only had one more night. Never had I met anyone like Bette Porter. And for the first time in my life, I was already missing her and yet we had not left yet.
The rest of the night went by quietly. We received a call from Helena informing us that our car would need to leave Camp David at about 8:00 in order to deliver us to Regan National. Our planes were leaving right about 11:00 or soon thereafter. The Bidens appreciated us coming and was sorry that they were not be able to have more interaction. Dr. Biden would be in touch in the near future. Perhaps they could arrange a visit to Wilmington in the near future.
Bette and I did our packing. And thanks to Ethel, only the clothes we wore for the day were dirty. We both decided that we would wear comfortable clothes going home rather than the business wear and the heels we arrived in. We put our cell phone number in each other’s phone. We then sat on the sofa and held each other’s hand and talked about this and that. The time came to retire and we went through our bedtime grooming routines. I know I held her close that night and finally drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, we got up and hurriedly showered and got ready for our trips home. It was hard for me to even look at Bette. My heart was aching knowing that we were parting and there was no definitive plan on getting back together. We went to breakfast and we thanked the staff for their care and attention during the weekend. The ride to Regan National was quiet. We held hands and gazed out the window as the trip took over an hour. We obtained our boarding passes and went through security and then when it came time to go to our separate ways, we hugged each other tightly and then we kissed as if there would never be another. Bette kept assuring me that we will both be alright. If we are meant to be together, we would find a way. She then said that this had been one of the most remarkable weekends of her life and she knew deep in her heart, this was not the end to us. This would be the beginning of us, but we would only continue when I was ready. I remember that it was then that I said in the most profound declaration that I could muster: I love you, Bette Porter. You take care of yourself and you will hear from me soon. She responded that she loved me too. We then headed for our respective gates.

Well, what a story, I really enjoyed it.
I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.
I still can’t bear to think of them not being together!
Thank you so much, a beautiful story.
I look forward to the next one.
Janice24,
First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?
Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…
OMG! How did I let this gem get past me. I loved every word. I would love to read something else from you, thank you so much for your talent.
OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
