    The Conversion

I honestly do not remember much of the flight home.  I know that I got a text from Bette about the time I arrived home that Bette had arrived home as well.  And the message: Thank you for the lovely weekend; talk soon.

Chapter 6 – The Next Few Weeks

When I arrived home, Burt and Ernie were beside themselves to see me.  Alice was there to greet me and to update me on all the events of her life. She finally got around to the real reason she was there and that was to get the inside scoop on what had happened on my weekend at the White House.

Tina:  Alice, I’m not sure that I can talk about it just yet. I have just had a wonderful weekend.  But I can’t talk about it right now. I’m tired and I need to get something to eat and just rest.  Why don’t you and I have dinner tomorrow night and I’ll fill you in. Has everything been alright here?

Alice:  Burt and Ernie were fine.  They need to get outdoors more. I think they missed not having someone home all day. Can I get anything for you?

Tina:  No, I think I’ll just fix myself an egg sandwich and unpack and call it a night. I’ll call you tomorrow. It’s a work day for you, isn’t it?

I know Alice thought my behavior was peculiar, but she left and allowed me my time alone.

I then sent Bette a text:  Going to bed early… I miss you.  Will talk tomorrow.

The next day, I called Bette.  She was upset.  Her dog Gretchen had died over the weekend and the housekeeper had the dog buried in the back yard and removed all her toys and possessions and stored them away.  Bette needed a couple of days to grieve the loss of her dog. She appreciated me calling as she really wanted to talk to me… to just hear my voice seemed to give her comfort. She assured me that she fine and just needed some quiet time and then she would be back to normal in a day or so. I told her to call me day or night if she needed someone to talk to that I was available for her. She said she would and then signed off with a thanks for calling.

      • Janice24,

First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.

From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?

Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…

      • OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
