We then talked every evening just before we retired for bed. We talked about our partnership agreement and about our publishers. It was during that period that Joe Biden resigned from the Presidency. Bette called Helena and got a few details that were not available to the public. The Bidens had returned to Wilmington, Delaware. Helena and Mark were no longer a part of the White House staff as President Harris and The First Gentleman had brought in their own personal assistants and valets. Kamala Harris had chosen Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey as her Vice President. She really wanted Representative Katie Porter from California, however since Porter and Harris were both from the state of California, she could not serve as Vice President under Harris. The New Jersey governor being a Democrat chose a woman from his party to serve out the term for Senator Booker. After everything had settle down, there had been a peaceful transition of power and the balance of power in both houses and in the Whitehouse had remained with the Democrats. The Republicans were going through a period of restructuring and getting their identity clarified. The American public were growing tired of identity politics and fighting over things which related to depriving some minority of its rights to live their life as they as they believed proper. Biden had prevented a severe recession and was working toward more balance budget and a reduced deficit. The country still had a multitude of problems. There were still significant numbers of people who did not trust the news media, governmental agencies and were convinced that all politician were corrupt. Yet those same people trusted the large corporations and wealthy individuals to protect the interest of ordinary citizens. These were the people who believed that reduce regulations would improve their life and were generally the victims of industry accidents, repressed wages and increased heath care cost. The society was still muchly divided between the haves and the have-nots, with the population of the have nots seem to be growing. It was 2025… I was beginning to think that the more things change, the more they stayed the same.
Bette flew into Austin one Thursday evening. I met her at the airport and brought her to my condo and introduce her to Burt and Ernie. They took to her like she was their long-lost buddy. She got tickled when they both insisted that they sit on the sofa with her as she tried to enjoy some tea after her long flight. I finally had to step in and insist that they both go to their beds and stay off the sofa.

I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.

First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?

OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website.
