    The Conversion

Bette:  And what would you be looking for?

Tina:  I think that I would like to have a place maybe just a little larger but mostly I want some outdoor spaces. I think I would like to have a garden to raise vegetables and herbs and maybe some flowers. I would love to have a view of some kind. You know, maybe a place with views like Camp David was. Just looking into a forest, or maybe at some mountains or some water. I want a place which is quiet, peaceful and not so many neighbors as I have here. I think that Burt and Ernie would enjoy something like that.  Now, we just have to go to the dog park for them to enjoy outdoors.

Bette:  Sounds wonderful. Sounds ideal for a writer.

Tina:  Well, I would hope that this place would not be too far from city conveniences such as grocery stores, drug stores, health care and some kind of entertainment like movie theatres, book stores… things like that.

Bette:  That all sounds perfectly reasonable.  And you would want to be near an airport as well. You know that you are going to need access to do the travel you are going to need to do for your writing and research.

Tina:  Yes, that is true. And if I found such a place, I would want it old age friendly. I would prefer not to have to climb stairs in my old age to get to bed. I would want adequate storage and baths which either were or could be converted in my old age for safety and convenience. I would like to have space for live-in help if it should be needed. And I would like to have a garage with access to the kitchen so that I could get groceries in without getting wet when it rains.

Bette:  That’s a good idea. But you have most all of that here.

Tina:  I have very little outdoor space. I have no view except this city and I have far too many neighbors. Oh, and I would like to get away from the blasted heat of Austin Texas summers. It’s been over 100 degrees in the month of July for the last 3 years.  Burt and Ernie just can’t take the heat.

      • Janice24,

First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.

From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?

Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…

      • OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
