The Party
By the time the cocktail reception was over Tina had made the rounds and introduced Bette to everyone. A few people had asked about Kate as she had yet to show up but there was no indication that anyone knew about the missing film or Kate’s possible role in the theft. Tina was relieved as she didn’t want to ruin the evening for everyone else. She’d briefly talked to Aaron and though he was still being an asshole and holding her responsible at least he’d cooled off and was no longer yelling.
She had yet to see William or talk to him. Aaron had been with William earlier but he hadn’t said anything about to missing film and when they got to the reception he didn’t make any effort to bring the investor over to Tina. Aaron was a coward and he’d made every effort to avoid Tina for the rest of the evening. The reason being that the missing film wasn’t the only thing that would upset Tina that evening and he wasn’t in any hurry to suffer her wrath. Aaron had suggested not saying anything to William for the time being. If the theft had not occurred it would still be several weeks before the lab would release the film to the studio anyway. That bought them some time to question Kate if she ever showed up. For now it was business as usual.
Tina didn’t let on to Aaron or anyone else including Sam and Sally that Trevor’s investigative team had tentatively identified Eric Peters as the thief and that the search into his whereabouts was well on the way. Bette and Tina had agreed to keep this information to themselves until they had concrete evidence. Besides that they were still not sure if Aaron could be trusted and they still didn’t know William’s part in all this. As for Sally and Sam they did trust them but they didn’t want to involve their friends or risk that either of them might inadvertently slip and divulge information they were not yet ready to share.
***
Following the cocktail reception everyone was ushered into the dining room to be seated for dinner. There were twenty-five tables situated in the large area each with formal settings of white linen table cloths, napkins, china dishes, crystal glasses, sterling silver flatware and floral centerpieces. Each table seated eight to accommodate the 200 guests. This was a small number by movie standards because it sometimes took hundreds even thousands of people on the technical crew to make a large scale movie. But this intimate gathering was mostly for the actors, supporting cast, writers, producers, directors, and those involved in casting, wardrobe, make-up, visual effects, and production.
