The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 8

    Bette smiled. “I’d like that.”

They shared an awkward hug before the trio separated and Bette donned her game face to navigate the subway home.

At 8:43 am, she dropped a cup of hot coffee and it splashed on the exposed portion of her Capri clad legs, slightly scalding her.

At 10:13 am, she dropped a pile of paperwork on the floor and nearly fell over as she bent down to pick up the scattered pieces of paper.

At 10:18 am, she had to track down her boss, Jeffrey, so that he could repeat the instructions he’d given her for said-fallen paperwork. And still confused about those instructions at 10:23 am, she slouched down in an empty seat in the break room, a few strands of blonde hair hanging down over her flushed tanned face.

“You doing okay, kid?” asked Jeffrey’s dark-haired admin, Gina.

Tina looked up and met the older woman’s caring smile with a small one of her own. “I’m okay. Just having a bad day.”

Gina stepped closer to Tina, her high-heeled sandals clicking against the tile as she walked. Gina was slightly under 5 feet tall and had a mild complex about her diminutive height and size. She always wore heels and always dressed as if she were getting ready for a first date. The admin was a fashionista and at 27 was convinced that her job as a secretary was only temporary until she found the right role.

Gina placed a friendly hand on Tina’s shoulder, “It’ll get better. Sounds like you got a case of the Mondays. It doesn’t help that Jeffrey’s barking orders at you like you can’t hear.”

The admin leaned down a little and her angled, shoulder-length bob of straight, dark hair leaned with her. She lowered her voice conspiratorially and said, “Between you and me…I think he had a bad weekend. Came in muttering something about not being able to find a decent woman in the city.”

Tina sighed. “So maybe it’s not just me.”

The aspiring actress tossed her right hand in the air, the beaded bracelet there jingling as she moved. “Are you kidding? Don’t be silly. It’s not just you.”

    1. These girls are just so into each other they’re having trouble staying focused. I agree with bombasticbully. There is drama up ahead!! I love your long posts. Thanks for sharing your talent with us once again. PPS

    2. You know that summer is over with and schools are back in session? Bette and Tina are trying so hard to survive with this long distance between them. Please help them to continue to want to stay together.

    3. Awww MTS, you just made our day brighter! B’s reunion with Damon was very charming. They have been through a lot and they are sincerely bonded as close friends. Hmmm As for B meeting Debbie in the flesh, it was quite an experience for her, as they both share the same uncomprehension from some members of their families. Janice is being more perceptive of her daughter and we could appreciate her concern about B missing his father. B&T’s conversation was so sweet and honest, as usual. We smiled when Tina’s green monster of jealousy was so evident, while learning about Debbie. But above all, you can breathe and feel the magic of their love. You are taking us into a wonderful ride. Thanks for this marvellous update, MTS. We truly enjoyed it! PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)

    5. Hello MTS, Great to have another wonderful piece of this puzzle from Your. I just adore the reality of Bette and Tina’s love for each other here. These girls so belong, willingly, to each other. There is not a question of that. And it is something that everyone around them can realize. David saw it, Debbie saw and even Gina saw it. They are so affected by each other that even 3000 miles can not quench their love and attraction. The night time calls are so sweet and precious. Can’t wait to reac more of this terrific tale. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
