“We’re all set.” Sally answered bringing Tina’s attention to the TV monitor, the console with remote controls and the wireless microphone speakers placed strategically around the conference room table. There were also pitchers of iced water, glasses, and bowls of mint candy within easy reach of everyone seated at the table. Sally had not bothered with any other refreshments as Tina meant to keep the meeting short and to the point. As she glanced around the room where William, Kate, and Aaron awaited, she was anxious to be out of their sight. Just being in the same space with these miscreants was making her sick to her stomach.
“Tina what’s all this about?” Aaron stood up, his face already flushed. “Why are you involving Max and the legal team? I thought this was just a post-production meeting. I expected you got us here to assure William that although you disagreed with the re-writes Kate and I made the right decision. Now that we have a distributor I thought for sure that we can move forward with your blessings to get this project completed.”
“Well Aaron, I don’t know what would have given you that idea, but am far from giving my blessings on anything right now. Additionally, I don’t answer to you regarding who I invite to my meetings but in deference to William I will explain.” Tina turned her attention from Aaron and addressed the other man in the room. “William, thank you for coming. I’m sorry we didn’t have an opportunity to speak last night.”
“Yes, well we are here now, and like Aaron I’m curious to know what is going on. Are we making a movie or not?”
“That’s precisely what I would like to know, but first let me introduce everyone joining via video conference. Max Sweeney is the Director of the Peabody Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. His role is to protect the interest of the Shaolin-Peabody Studios. From the legal team, we have Mr. Winters, who will assess any studio liabilities and Ms. Villa is acting as my personal counsel.”
“Why do we need legal counsel at this juncture? Asked William.
“William, I’m requesting that you release me from any personal liability. Since both Kate and Aaron have indicated that you signed off on their actions, I want it on record that your additional $5M investment was not coerced and that you had full disclosure, that you’re fully informed and in agreement with the changes to the end of the movie.”
