    “Babe,” Tina takes Bette’s hand in both of hers, “it seemed like forever when it was happening, but it was less than 3 whole years and we did share some polite kisses during that time. Right?”

    “Well …Yes.”

    “And then we had those months of reconnecting before we made it official again.”

    “Yeah, we did.” Bette’s eyes soften as she looks at her wife remembering that time.

    “So let’s keep the 10 per day.”

    “Done.”

    “So how many is that?”

    “Let’s add them up.” Bette offered. “That’s 10,950 for those 3 years.”

    “My lips are starting to get sore just thinking about that many.”

    Bette laughed. “I’ll nurse you back to health babe.”

    “Yeah with more kisses.” Tina chuckled.

    “Probably.” Bette peeked Tina on the nose.

    “So the other years?”

    “That leaves us with 15 years of the average we decided on.”

    “I can’t do that math in my head B.”

    “That’s the calculators job T.” Bette punches the numbers in she wants to add up and has the total. “Looks like those 15 years equals 5475 days. And those days times 160 average kisses a day equals 876,000 kisses.’

    “Fuck.” Tina’s shocked by the number.

    “Babe, that’s another category.” Bette leans over and kisses Tina on the lips.

    “God, B, is that even a category?”

    “Just for us babe. Just for us.”

    “Alright Porter, let’s have the final total.”

    “Final answer?”

    “Final answer.” Tina jokes.

    “So all these numbers equal….” Bette now adds all the subtotals and the answer is . . . .

    “Fuck.”

    “What?”

    “T, we didn’t do it.”

    “What do you mean?’ Tina looks over at Bette’s figures.

    “It’s only 886,950.” Bette sighs, sadness in her voice.

    “Wow, I thought it would be more.”

    “Yeah, me too.” Bette frowns, her shoulders slumping in defeat.

    A beat passes between them.

    “Babe?” Tina squints her eyes.

    “Yeah?”

    “We’re missing something.”

    “What?”

    “The years don’t match up?”

    “What do you mean?”

    “You said this guy was 59.”

    “Yes, that’s what the article reported.”

    “Well babe, we’re not as old as him”

    “I’m not following T.”

    “And here’s my Ivy League grad.” Tina brushed Bette’s hair off her forehead.

    “What am I missing?”

    “We have to add the difference in our ages so that we have the same years in the quotation.”

        This story actually stemmed from a scene I was going to include in another short story. This was marked to be just a paragraph in that story & then I thought – ‘this could be more than just a couple of sentences’.
        So I flushed it out more & tried to give it a light, funny side.
