“Hey! First, I told you to take it easy on the fucking f-bombs.” Bette smiles at Angie hoping to add a little levity to the emotional situation. Tina peers in – still unseen – to take in the interaction. A small smile touches her own lips at Bette’s playful comment, but the tears are unmistaken proof of the sorrow brought forth by Angie’s words. She looks to the bed as Bette pulls Angie to sit next to her. “Come here Boo; come sit with me a minute.”

Angie sits side by side next to Bette – their legs dangling off the edge of the bed. Bette slips her left hand into Angie’s right, lacing their fingers. “I don’t understand… don’t you still love Mama T?”

Tears prick Bette’s eyes trying to control her emotions. “Of course, I absolutely still love your Mother.” Bette runs her fingers softly through Angie’s curls. “It’s not a lie Babygirl – it was never a lie. Your Mother was, and always will be, the love of my life… always.”

“Then why don’t you fight for her?”

Bette takes a moment of silence before explaining. “Have you ever heard the phrase, ‘If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they’re yours. If not, it was never meant to be.’ Boo, you can’t force someone to love you, they have to be free to choose.”

“But how can she not choose you?”

Bette releases a long sigh as a few tears slip down her cheeks. “Don’t be mad at her Angie, please. I know this is hard to understand and this hurts… so much. We – T and I – tried to shield you from any negativity in our relationship, and that may be why this all feels so blindsiding. Okay…” Bette blows out a long breath. “I was not a good wife.”

    “Mom–”

“No Angie, it’s not an opinion that’s up for debate; it’s an immutable fact. I had an… interesting upbringing. You never met your Grandpa Melvin, but if you had you would understand. The way my Father raised me led to some of the… less than enjoyable parts of my personality. I am controlling, and self-centered, and a bombastic bully. I tried to be a better partner for her because she deserved it… she deserves so much… but I never dealt with my own shit. I continued to ignore it, and as life went on and stress grew so did my negative traits. I never told Tina to give up her work or goals, but my unwillingness to compromise or sacrifice my wants and my work forced her to sacrifice her own. She sacrificed everything so she could nurture our family and build us a beautiful and warm home; and I continued to neglect her and take her for granted.” Bette wipes her freshly fallen tears before continuing, her voice filled with emotion. “I’m sorry Angie; our family fell apart because of me and I’m so sorry, but you can’t blame T. She fell victim to my all-consuming narcissism; she needed to find herself again and because of that it makes sense that she couldn’t find herself in me again.”

    1. I certainly hope the L Word writers are reading this!!!!!

Awesome story – so heart wrenching & then so hopeful!!!!

Angie can bring them back together & get Bette to fight for Tina.

Thank you so much for the terrific story!!!!!

    2. Wonderful! Exactly what I thought about their marriage and reason for divorce.

I like Carrie’s cameo appearance. Come in, say the wrong words and disappear again for good.

    3. We must hope the Writers have the same thoughts in mind!

Enjoyed this so believable storyline and cried all the way through!
Tears of sorrow and tears of joy!

      Thank you
      SG

    4. We need to print and send to Showtime! If they want Tibette “drama” then they can write about the sessions with Dr Foxworthy!

Or we can write some scenes of creative Tibette slap bit*^ches off off of these two!!!!

Stop tearing apart this family!!! How about A
adding some more children to the Porter-Kennard clan to increase adventure scenarios

    5. It’s a beautiful story, Thank you!

Like others i wish we could see something like that on the screen in s2 Gen. Q.

By the way – i still think that even suggest that Bette could be with them when Tina would tell Angie about her marriage was most stupid Tina’s line in that dinner in Bette’s house in GQ.

    6. Wow!!!!

How wonderful it would be if this happened in Generation Q!

I wish you were the writer for the show !!!

It was so beautiful how Bette explained to Angelica that she was responsible for making their marriage fail!

I had tears in my eyes!

I am so grateful to you for this story, to ease the pain caused by the last episode.

I really hope this will happen in the last episode or in the second season, but it probably won’t. Marja doesn’t care about Tibette and the fans. She only cares about the newbies. Those are her creations, but they are not (yet) able to make the show successful.

Thank you so much for this wonderful story!!!

    7. Wow…this was powerful! Beautifully written. It really grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Thank you for sharing this with us and taking up the challenge…I think you succeeded!! :-)

    8. This is January 2020….this very well could be the best story of the year…. Wonder dialogue and storyline. I just cannot see Bette and Tina splitting permanently. I just cannot see how they would not find each other in some way or another and this story certainly shows the path. This does not mean their lives will be happily ever after, but it sure gives all of us TiBette fans hope. Bette and Tina love each other and always will. It’s just a matter of creating a relationship in which they can live together.

      Wonderful…Wonderful Wonder.

    9. Agree completely with all the other comments! Hope the writers read this wonderful story by Elizabeth (thank you!). It certainly has my vote to win this challenge. ????????
