    Tina – Are you crazy?! Bette is a very private person. She would never tell a business associate about her feelings for a client’s girlfriend!

    He laughs sarcastically.

    Eric – He probably noticed what your stupid ex-boyfriend could not! (pause) Were you attracted to her at that party?

    She sighs.

    Tina – I couldn’t help how I felt, Eric …

    Eric – And how exactly did you feel?! Did you all of a sudden feel tired of men?! Is that what happened?!

    She sighs irritated.

    Tina – What do you want me to say, Eric?!

    Eric – I want the truth!! The whole truth!!

    She raises her voice in frustration.

    Tina – What did you want me to do?! I fell in love with her! I just … fell in love with her!

    He stares at her surprised.

    Eric – You did …?

    Tina – Yes.

    He sighs and calms down. 

    Eric – You never really told me that you loved me …

    Their eyes meet.

    Tina – I’m sorry …

    Eric – A dyke, Tina?

    Tina – A person, Eric.

    He gives his back to her and looks at the sculptures. They are silent for a moment.

    Eric – I need to know this …

    He turns to her.

    Eric – Were you not pleased with me? Was it something I did … or didn’t do?

    She frowns.

    Tina – No … You can’t think this way. It has nothing to do with you. It has to do with me … and Bette.

    Eric – I can’t help thinking that I let you down … as a man.

    She shakes her head emphatically.

    Tina – Eric … we had fun together! All that time … it was real between us. Never think otherwise!

    Eric – Straight women don’t have affairs with lesbians, Tina!

    Tina – This only means that I’m not straight, Eric …

    He frowns, staring at her.

    Eric – I can’t believe this …

    He chuckles sadly.

    Eric – You, of all the women …?

    He looks at her teasingly.

    Eric – I’m sorry … I can’t picture you as a dyke.

    She chuckles.

    8. I fell so far behind in reading this and just caught up! This story brings such a smile to my face and I still love every moment of it! I’m kind of happy that I didn’t remember the whole story so that it could still feel like it was my first time reading it too but I definitely remembered this chapter!
