    “Fresh, home-made apple pie.”

    Bette blanched. “Lena, this coffee…”

Lena waved her hand dismissively.   ‘Oh, don’t be a purist. I know just the person who can supply you with the best apple pies you’ve ever had. Trust me, your patrons will love them.”

A thought struck Bette, then. On her way in, as she returned from her supply runs for odds and ends she needed for the café, she’d driven past signs that pointed to fresh eggs, fruit, and other locally-grown produce.

“Say, Lena. Can you tell me who supplies the best eggs, grows the best fruit, etc?”

Lena was savoring the last of her coffee, and didn’t respond immediately. At length after she unashamedly licked the last bits of foam from her teaspoon, she smiled at Bette. “Thank you, Jay! That is the best cup I have ever had, hands down! And yeah, I do know who supplies the best eggs, etc. Why do you ask?”

“I was just thinking of setting up a local goods type of corner, maybe out there.” She pointed to a corner tucked across the open space. There were a group of small tables set up next to a floor-to-ceiling bookcase in that corner. “I have a retail license, too, and I was thinking of making this a general store/café place. It’s a concept I’ve seen executed in New York, London, etc., and I wanted the same kind of thing happen in this place.”

“That’s a great idea! You want me to go talk to them?”

Bette smiled at Jordie’s mom, struck for the first time by the older woman’s obvious good looks. And like Jordie, she looked lean and fit, too. The lemony spaghetti strapped sundress she wore accentuated how much of a bigger set she had on her than Jordie did. Did it just get a bit hotter in here? Their eyes met and held for a long second. Hmmm… interesting. Lena had evidently seen Bette checking her out, but hadn’t flinched. In fact, if Bette had to guess, Lena was checking her out also.

Now, Bette, keep it under control, would you? She may have it going on, but everything about her screams “straight girl.” Plus, this isn’t San Francisco, all right? No experimenting with the local straights, ok? Blend in; blend in, that’s your mantra. This is red-state country, for heaven’s sake. You’re standing out as it is. Remember that odious man you bought this building from? Yeah, him. There’s more of him around here. They probably wouldn’t want you sniffing around Mrs. America.

    1. Skydancer, thank you for the update.

I was certain you would bring Tina in the café to meet Bette. But maybe it is Tina and she had to change her name too and needed to hide.

Lena or Tina doesn’t matter at the, moment, Bette can use some tender loving to reliesh her stress.

      • Nice chapter, skydancer. In some email exchanges with @Jacky, she’s passed on to me that she doesn’t expect, nor want writers to self-censor. Just write what you want and let the chips fall where they may. Gotta love that woman. I would just avoid keywords that would be caught by any sniffer. I’m sure you have an idea of what words might attract attention. Other than that, I say bring on the TLC!

    2. Really like this so far. If not mistaken, in the first chapter, I believe that I read that a film crew would be in the area very soon. So if you didn’t change Tinas’ occupation, then that is when she will show up. Right? Must go back and read that first chapter for some clarification of all this. Thanks for sharing. Can hardly wait for Tina to appear.

      • Hi @Jane, I was referring to warning or instructions you see when you start to post a new chapter or story. The warning is new, and informs you that Google is screening for mature content in the text, not just in pics that are posted. Since the site relies on Google providing a platform for it (I think), I took it seriously. I also took it to mean Google is screening other posted chapters (and I’ve posted a bunch of chapters with sexy scenes, so ….). But @Jacky is saying not to worry, so, I guess that means I can (?) does that clear it up for you?

    3. Hmmm, very, very interesting. Our favorite girls having to survive in a Red State, living underground, and communicating thru code! Sort of like life right now! Again. Please keep writing so I can relive this
