    Chapter 12

    Bette looks to her and nods.

    (Bette) Yes, I have to. In a couple of weeks

    (Alice) Where are you going?

    (Bette) California again

    Alice nods slowly as she examines her.

    (Alice) Why are you going again so soon?

    (Bette) It’s a family thing Al

    Bette looks back to the stage and Alice continues to examine her.

    (Alice) Is everything OK?

    Bette looks back to her and nods.

    (Bette) It will be

    They all watch the band for a while, and Alice again looks to Bette.

    (Alice) Is it something with Kit?

    Bette makes eye contact with Shane and then focuses on Alice.

    (Bette) Yes but I don’t want to talk about it

    She shrugs.

    (Bette) I just need to be there right now. I know the timing isn’t good

    Alice raises her eyebrows and sighs.

    (Alice) Well yeah, this is when you’d usually be keeping an eye out for our next target

    (Bette) Can we just put things off for a few weeks? Maybe all take some time out from this?

    Alice looks at her for a moment and then nods.

    (Alice) Yeah, we can

    (Bette nods) Thank you

    They both have a sip of their drinks and look back to the stage.

    (Alice) How long will you be gone?

    Bette raises her eyebrows and shrugs.

    (Bette) I don’t know, I’ll let you know once I arrive and settle in, and see how things are

    She nods towards the bar and holds up her empty glass.

    (Bette) Anyway, I’m done with this, I’ll get us another round

    Alice has a sip of her drink as she watches Bette step away.

    (Alice) I don’t understand how she’s so good at what she does, I can tell when she’s lying from a fucking mile off

    Shane smiles and has a sip of beer, and Alice looks over at her.

    (Alice) And I can tell when you know something too by the way

    Shane raises her eyebrows and looks back at her, and Alice picks up her drink and nods.

    (Alice) Yeah

    Alice focuses on Bette waiting at the bar, and Shane smiles as she sits back in her chair.

    (Shane) Why don’t you just try and enjoy the downtime Al. You’re working on another article aren’t you? Maybe focus on that

    1. Hummm…. so Bette is going to have Dana look for Tina. What is Shane’s role in this? Not sure why Bette wanted her in on the conversation as she appears to really not to be tracking what is going on.

      The one thing that Bette knows is that Tina’s good friend is Helena Peabody. After all Bette robbed Helena at some point in the past. The probability is that Tina and Helena are linked in some form or fashion. So finding out who Tina is will surely be through Helena…. maybe? So if you can find Helena and track her travels and activities, you might be able to find Tina.

    2. Hmm, it looks like there are going to be surprises with what Dana discovers. Maybe Tina will result from the competition.It’s funny that Bette and Tina didn’t even exchange names this time. It’s getting very, very interesting.

      Hasn’t put together it was Helena she robbed or has she?
      Will the thief be there in August?

    4. So interested in this story, please don’t abandon it. We need to see where this thief attraction is going to lead Bette and Tina. What connections do Tina and Helena have…is Helena the master thief. Will Bette and Tina continue to see each other. I do appreciate Tina returning Bette’s watch and jewelry.
