Chapter 6 – Drivers Licenses and Banks

The family talked about the upcoming trip to New York and about Bette and Daniel staying in Redondo Beach. They ordered some apple pie for dessert.  The lunch was not concluded until 3:00 pm.  Tina then had the family load the car as they headed to Malibu to have dinner with Helena and Dylan. It would take two hours minimum to get to Helena’s from where they were.

Both the kids fell asleep in the back seat having full stomachs and gentle motion of the car.  Bette drifted in and out of sleep during the ride as well. Tina concentrated on the road and feel of the car.  She was feeling good about how well the week had gone. She and Bette had made substantial progress on their to do list. Now that Bette had appointments for both a job for herself and a school for Daniel, she was more than thrilled with how things were going. The fact that Whittington Elementary School was only blocks from the UCLA campus had thrilled her.  Bette could take Daniel to school almost every day. Then they could work out something to get him home. That was a plus as far as Tina was concerned. Of course, now that Angie had her learners permit and driving lessons scheduled, was really pleasing. She smiled when she thought about the car which was waiting in Aunt Kit’s garage. She hoped Angie would be pleased.

At 5:15, Tina pulled up to the squawk box at Helena’s gate. She punched the button and announced their arrival.  Her sleeping passengers all began to awake with the stopping of the car.

Tina pulled into the long circular drive way and parked at the front door.  Dylan was out the front door to greet the family and show them in.

Dylan: Hey Guys! Welcome to Malibu!

Tina:  Hey Dylan.  Thank you for inviting us. I have forgotten how nice this place is.

Bette:  Hey Dylan. Nice to see you again.

Bette and Tina both hugged Dylan and she greeted both the kids.  She then showed them into the massive house.

Dylan:  Helena is in the study at the moment on the phone. Why don’t we go out to the patio and get you guys something to drink? So how was your day?
