LENOX HILL HOSPITAL-3
”I’ve told you a thousand times that I don’t want to reopen this story!”
The rain beat on the windows, the heat of the hospital was in contrast with the cold outside creating a fogged effect on the windows.
”I know, but I’m here to tell you something important that I don’t want you to hear from other people…” the woman prayed.
A bitter laugh began to end immediately with her acrid words ”everyone knew you were fucking Mark while you were still with me”.
Bette was clear and decisive, even if her heart really hurt this time.
Callie was leaning against the cabinet under the television, in front of Bette’s bed which was empty, the brunette was on the armchair with her light pink cashmere sweater and her oversized sweats. Her gaze was piercing.
Callie swallowed thinking of a suitable way to speak ”I know I was a piece of shit and I’ve apologized to you a thousand times”
”I don’t need your apologies..”
”You never wanted to go to therapy!” Callie screamed a little and Bette raised an eyebrow ”you didn’t deserve this…you didn’t deserve me to come there and listen to your bullshit…about how good another man made you feel, you didn’t love me anymore.”
”He paid attention to me! You came home late, you worked crazy shifts…you did….”
”my fucking job!” Bette screamed, then closed her eyes her head was pounding, she took a deep breath, she really didn’t want to relive all of this, that dark time, much more than now. ”you have to go away…” she whispered.
Callie moved closer to the bed, touching the coffee table with her fingers ”I’m pregnant Bette… almost twelve weeks… if everything goes well, it will soon be noticeable and I wanted to be honest this time.” the words came out almost like nothing, very light.
Bette looked at her, her gaze said nothing, she was impassive, she expected it, Bette knew it would happen from two like them ”congratulations” she said softly and turned towards the window.
For a few seconds Callie expected more, but when Bette didn’t even look at her anymore she understood that it was time to retreat and she slowly went out leaving Bette to her moment.

Thank you for the updates! I see this will be a slow-burn type of story :)
The next chapter arrive soon
Bette has been in the hospital for 2 years. I would assume that she and Callie broke up before she was admitted as a patient. Callie was seeing Mark before she broke up with Bette, so I would think that pregnancy would be inevitable. Bette’s situation seems hopeless at this point. It appears that her only hope is a transplant. She is unhappy about her physical condition and her future prospects. That does not lend itself to improving her health. And Callie’s announced pregnancy does not make Bette’s life easier. Tina is trying to be her friend, but Bette’s attitude does not make it easy. Life for Bette is spiraling from bad to worse. In Bette’s words, she needs a miracle.
Thanks for the update.
Thank you
It is normal for Bette to be frustrated and angry about “I know how you feel”, not pleasant for Tina but…
I would be free to assume that Bette’s condition will worsen and it will lead to some “neurosurgery stuff”.
who knows…we’ll see. In the meantime, you’ll have a new chapter.
