LENOX HILL HOSPITAL-8
”so how will we proceed with the operation?”
Helena sighed ”I want to see your last tests done yesterday, wait for the results.. and then on Friday with Jackson we will take care of the details and you will tell us if you are ready for this… it could be your only chance Bette, but I want you to know that it is very risky, we have never done an operation like this neither he nor I…”
”but you are the best in the field…”
Helena nodded ”yes but it is still a leap into the unknown. The Vad could always give you more chances and more time”
”I don’t want a fucking pump attached, Helena!” Bette got nervous raising her voice.
Helena fell silent ”ok…” she said softly.
”sorry, I know you’re doing the best you can”
”no you’re right… but I want you to know all the risks… all the things that might not go beyond the… yes… possibility of going back to normal.”
Bette nodded ”I’ll think about it ok? we’ll talk about it on Friday…”
”yes for now I want you to rest and continue to gain strength..”
Bette was left alone for a while, she tried to read a few pages of her book but her mind went back to Tina, the blonde hadn’t been seen or heard from since the operation with Karina, it was strange, it wasn’t like Tina, but Bette really didn’t know what to think, she didn’t expect anything from the blonde, they weren’t a couple, they were just acquaintances.
Who knows if Karina had seen Tina naked before? Who knows if Tina was the kind of girl to kiss right away, or if she made you wait.. Bette really imagined her in every way.
”How stupid you are…” she said to herself.
Tina had a beautiful normal life, with a fantastic daughter, Bette wasn’t the right one for her.
The day was rather interminable until in the afternoon Tina walked through the door of her room to Bette’s amazement.
”Hi…” the blonde said softly, her face slightly red
”Hi Tina…” Bette was wearing reading glasses ”I wasn’t expecting you anymore…”

So Bette does not want the surgery. There is no motivation to take the risk in her eyes.
When you are dealing with someone who has a terminal condition is difficult. And when you are dealing with someone who is in a state of decline and been on this path for two years and basically restricted to a hospital for that amount of time, and has no significant other or family, then depression and the lack of will to follow medical advice becomes a reality. And if there is any kind of stubbornness, it becomes a mountain to overcome. The fear of dying becomes brings death at a faster rate. Maybe Tina can convince Bette to have the surgery for her. However, Bette viewing Tina as just having pity for her rather than true attachment may be another barrier to overcome.
They say doctors make the worst patients. I think that Bette Porter would hold all the records as far as being a bad patient. It is nice that Tina has become her friend…
Thanks for the chapter.
