Lost & Found in the Rain

Bette: (smirking) Yeah, they’re a lot, but they mean well. You handled Alice better than most people do.

Tina: (teasing) Is that a compliment?

    Bette: (grinning) Absolutely.

Tina glances at her watch, her expression turning regretful.

Tina: I should probably get going. I’ve got a project due Monday.

Bette: Let me walk you back.

Tina nods, and they leave the cafe, walking side by side in comfortable silence. When they reach Tina’s dorm, she turns to face Bette, her smile warm.

Tina: Thanks for breakfast. And for introducing me to your friends. It was… nice.

Bette: I’m glad you think so. Can I see you again soon?

    Tina: I’d like that.

They share a lingering look before Tina heads inside, leaving Bette standing there, a soft smile on her face. She turns and walks back to her dorm, already planning their next date.

Sunday Morning – Bette’s Dorm Room

Bette sitting at her desk, staring blankly at her open law textbook. She’s supposed to be studying, but her mind is elsewhere. Her pen taps rhythmically on the desk as she leans back in her chair, her thoughts clearly on Tina. Alice walks in unannounced, and smirking.

Alice: Okay, Porter. Spill. What’s got you all moony eyed this morning?

Bette: (snapping out of her thoughts) What are you talking about?

Alice: (sitting on the bed) You. Sitting there like some lovesick teenager. Don’t tell me you’re thinking about Tina.

Bette: (rolling her eyes) Is it a crime to think about someone you like?

Alice: (grinning) No, but it’s weird coming from you. You’re usually the one making other people swoon, not the other way around. This thing with Tina must be serious.

Bette: (with a small smile) She’s… different, Alice. She makes me want to try harder. To be better.

Alice: (mock gasping) Oh my God. Bette Porter is growing a conscience. I’m calling the press.

    Bette: (laughing) You’re impossible.

Tina’s Dorm Room Same Day Evening

Tina is sitting on her bed, flipping through a magazine, when there’s a knock at her door. She gets up and opens it to find Lara, her roommate and close friend, standing there with a curious look.

Lara: So, how was your big date with the famous Bette Porter?

Tina: (blushing) It was… really nice. She took me to this jazz club, and then we had breakfast this morning. She’s different from what people say.

    1. I loved how the scene played out, mostly because they were so honest with each other and actually talked things out rather than running away. Tina needs to make her own decisions and trust Bette rather than being influenced by friends. Bette needs to be honest with herself and knowing her past reputation should not prevent her from growing and loving respectfully. We know they made it to a certain point then things fell apart. I look forward to you filling in the years between when they met in college and how they ended up in divorce court. Great writing style. Thank you for sharing this story!

      • I really appreciate your thoughtful insight, It’s indeed a significant moment for Tina to trust her heart and for Bette to demonstrate her commitment to change. The journey from where they began to where they are now is rich with history and emotion, and it’s thrilling to delve into that narrative. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

      • The rain wasn’t just a backdrop it was a storm brewing between them, mirroring every unspoken fear, every desperate hope. They weren’t just standing in the downpour; they were drowning in their emotions, clinging to each other like lifelines. And Helena? She struck the match, but Bette and Tina were always going to be the wildfire. There’s so much more to unfold, and I promise, the intensity is far from over.

    2. Oh geez, most definitely continue with this story. I like how skeptical Tina is of Bette from all the horror stories told to her about how Bette loves them then leaves them with no commitments. Please hurry with new chapters. Now that they are both soaked from the rain will they go to Tina’s room, Bette’s room or each to 5heir own rooms to change clothes and get dry.

      • The rain wasn’t just a setting it was a force, relentless and unforgiving, much like the emotions crashing between them. Bette, for so long, had been untouchable, slipping through hearts like sand, never staying long enough to leave a mark that mattered. But Tina? She was different. She wasn’t just another fleeting moment. And that terrified both of them.

Tina had every reason to hesitate. The stories of Bette’s past weren’t just whispers they were warnings. Bette was the storm people admired from a distance, never daring to step too close, because those who did never left unscathed. And yet, here they were, soaked and breathless, standing at the edge of something dangerous, something real. There’s still so much more to unravel and I’m excited to take you along for the journey. Appreciate your support.
