Private Duty—Chapter 1

”Ok Tina. And call me Bette. I’ll be in the room with Ms. Kennard when you get back. I need to do an assessment on her and I would like you to be here for that. I always like the family members to know and see what I am doing at all times. It builds trust between the caregiver and the family member” Bette explained
Tina smiled and took her keys out of her purse.
”Thanks Bette. I knew there was a reason you came highly recommended and why I hounded the agency to assign you to my mother.”
”Yeah. They were about to send me to Arizona. Not that I didn’t mind but I just came back from being in Washington for eight months and was hoping I could stay close to home here in L.A. So I thank you for your persistence” Bette chuckled
”Well I am glad it worked out for the both of us. I’ll be back soon. Call if you need me while I’m gone” Tina waived as she went out the door closing it behind her
Bette smiled and headed back up the stairs entering Ms. Kennard’s room. She adjusted the cover and fixed her pillow under her head then gently patted her shoulder.
”Well Ms. Kennard. I’m Bette Porter. I will be your nurse. Your daughter Tina wants you to have the best care and I will do my best to give you that.”
Theresa opened her eyes cutting them over to look at Bette. She blinked once in understanding then closed them again
Bette smiled and sat down in the chair beside the bed and began looking over the medical file waiting for Tina to return.
Bette was still busy looking at Theresa’s medical file when she was startled by the bedroom door swinging open and the knob hitting against the wall with a loud thump. She jumped in her chair looking in the direction of the door not seeing anyone until she saw a head belonging to a little girl pop up over the other side of Theresa’s bed.
The little girl was shocked to see Bette there as Bette closed the medical file and smiled at her.
”Hi! I came to see my Grammy! My name is Alana” The little girl said holding on to the side rail.

I remember this so pleased to see it back and look forward to you continuing it and completing it.
Happy New Year, stay safe
SG
Happy New Year to you SG! You stay safe!
This is a good beginning…. but please do not abandon your other story….. I so want to see what happens to Bette and Tina in that one as well as this one…..
I am going to have to start taking notes on all the stories that are in progress… I love reading them all, but I get somewhat frustrated when they suddenly end with no ending…. I get particularly frustrated when the story goes on for many months and chapters and then suddenly just stops – then years go by and nothing. And then suddenly the author will start to write again and starts one or two or three stories with no mention of the saga which I have been waiting for for months perhaps years. And the strange thing is that the stories are good and seem to be so close to completion. Another couple of chapters maybe????
Totally understand your frustration Martha!…If you are referring to Stolen Hearts it only has one chapter remaining for that book. I should post it soon. I have not decided to do a sequel. It would depend on demand. As far as Soul Dancing that one is far from over. This one however I have been writing on and it’s almost finished. It could warrant a sequel..but again.. that would be up to you the readers
Thank you for the comment!
I completely echo your comments.
A Happy and Healthy New Year Martha
Gr8 story. Sometimes forgiving ones’ self is a monumental task. Breaking patterns of self-hatred take more than a little bit internal tenacity. Tina will ultimately have to let Bette help her through the guilt and pain. And even Theresa will have to let Bette show her kindness.
Looking forward to more chapters!
Great story.. I hope to read more, please.
I remember this story and i am glad you have almost written all the chapters and yes i would love to read a sequel!
And of course I will read the other stories!
Happy New Year!
This is a really good chapter. Great beginning to a very intriguing story. Bette is very forgiving.
