Private Duty—Chapter 1

”Well it’s nice to meet you Alana. My name is Bette”
”What are you doing in my Grammy’s room?” Alana asked climbing down from the bed and walking over to stand in front of Bette.
”I’m your Grammy’s nurse. I’m going to be taking care of her” Bette said softly and amused at the puzzled look Alana was giving her.
”What is that?” Alana asked pointing to the stethoscope around Bette’s neck
”Oh. Well this is a stethoscope. I will use it to hear your Grammy’s heart” Bette explained as Alana walked closer to inspect.
Bette removed the stethoscope from around her neck and Alana touched it like she had just found a valuable treasure. Bette chuckled at the site.
”Can it hear my heart?’ Alana asked
”Yes” Bette said taking an alcohol pad and cleaning the ear pieces. ”Here. Let me show you’
As Bette demonstrated to Alana how the stethoscope worked, Tina’s sister Tricia had been standing in the doorway watching Bette interact with her daughter.
Alana began jumping up and down when she heard her heart causing Tricia to laugh. Bette looked in her direction
”Sorry. She wanted to hear her heart” Bette apologized.
Tricia waived her off as she walked up to her mother’s bed.
”Mommy! Mommy! I heard my heart with this ste..uhmm..stets..uhmm…snets…stets.” Alana turned to Bette” ”What is this thing called again?” Alana asked frustrated that she couldn’t say the name
”Stethoscope” Bette answered
”Yeah that” Alana said to her mother
”That’s great honey but let’s leave Ms. Porter alone so she can take care of Grammy. Why don’t you go downstairs and watch cartoons while I talk to Ms. Porter ok?” Tricia prompted as Alana gave Bette her stethoscope back and ran out of the room.
”She’s cute” Bette said
”Thanks. Sorry if she bothered you. When we come over here she likes to get in the bed with Mom and lay with her. She has taken it pretty hard that Mom can’t talk to her or hold her since she had her stroke” Tricia moved towards Bette with her hand extended ”I’m Tricia Reynolds”
Bette stood up and shook Tricia’s hand
”Bette Porter. Very nice to meet you. I’m glad you are here. I am waiting on Tina to get back so I can do an assessment on Ms. Kennard”

I remember this so pleased to see it back and look forward to you continuing it and completing it.
Happy New Year, stay safe
SG
Happy New Year to you SG! You stay safe!
This is a good beginning…. but please do not abandon your other story….. I so want to see what happens to Bette and Tina in that one as well as this one…..
I am going to have to start taking notes on all the stories that are in progress… I love reading them all, but I get somewhat frustrated when they suddenly end with no ending…. I get particularly frustrated when the story goes on for many months and chapters and then suddenly just stops – then years go by and nothing. And then suddenly the author will start to write again and starts one or two or three stories with no mention of the saga which I have been waiting for for months perhaps years. And the strange thing is that the stories are good and seem to be so close to completion. Another couple of chapters maybe????
Totally understand your frustration Martha!…If you are referring to Stolen Hearts it only has one chapter remaining for that book. I should post it soon. I have not decided to do a sequel. It would depend on demand. As far as Soul Dancing that one is far from over. This one however I have been writing on and it’s almost finished. It could warrant a sequel..but again.. that would be up to you the readers
Thank you for the comment!
I completely echo your comments.
A Happy and Healthy New Year Martha
Gr8 story. Sometimes forgiving ones’ self is a monumental task. Breaking patterns of self-hatred take more than a little bit internal tenacity. Tina will ultimately have to let Bette help her through the guilt and pain. And even Theresa will have to let Bette show her kindness.
Looking forward to more chapters!
Great story.. I hope to read more, please.
I remember this story and i am glad you have almost written all the chapters and yes i would love to read a sequel!
And of course I will read the other stories!
Happy New Year!
This is a really good chapter. Great beginning to a very intriguing story. Bette is very forgiving.
