I took off my clothes and hung them on hooks, put on my selected shower shoes and robe and then exited the cubicle. I found Bette putting on a shower cap. I went and found one and put one on as well. While doing so, I could see that Bette did not have her robe well fastened and it came open and displayed her black one-piece suit which looked exactly like mine.
Bette: Are you about ready? Let’s go get wet!
Tina: Yes, let’s. That pool looks very inviting.
We walked out to the pool after we grabbed a couple of towels. We pulled a couple of chairs closer to the steps going into the pool and dropped our towels, took off our shoes and then removed our robes. Bette looked gorgeous. Not the body of a normal almost 50-year-old woman. More like a woman in her early 30’s. She then went and started down the steps and did a shallow dive into the water. She then turned and stood up to watch me enter the water. The water was cool at first but felt much better once I was fully emersed into the pool. Bette then said she was going to swim some laps to get loosened up and then she went into her “water work out”. So, I decided to just follow along in my lane and do pretty much what she did. She started off with an American crawl, she then went into a breast stroke, then a back stroke, then a side stroke and then a repeat of the side stoke on the other side. Her form was amazing. I tried to follow along, but I simply did not have the stamina that she did. So, I found myself just dog paddling in order to rest and follow her along. She then completed her work out with an American crawl in long and deliberate strokes. She ended at the wall and stopped to rest. She then floated on her back and simply enjoyed being in the water.
Bette: This is wonderful. I love swimming.
Tina: Yes, and you are good at it. Is this what you do for your normal exercise routine?
Bette: Yes. But my favorite is open water swimming. I don’t get to do that very much because you really need a buddy to go with you in case a problem occurs, they can help you out. The water is usually cold even with a proper wet suit. And there are some large animals in those waters as well. They usually do not bother you unless they are particularly hungry. The biggest problem is currents and having the energy to do what you’re doing and to know your limits. Swimming is one of those sports which can be tiring and get you in trouble if you do not know your body and your limits.

Well, what a story, I really enjoyed it.
I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.
I still can’t bear to think of them not being together!

First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?

OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website.
