    The Conversion

Bette: Ooow…. Not good. Okay, let me go get settled in and we can prepare dinner.

I showed Bette her room and bath and closet.  She went to use the potty and while I went into the kitchen and got out the sauce that I had made earlier in the day and put it on low heat. I then began to prepare the salad. Since there was only two of us. I assembled it as I went. I put everything except the tomatoes. I then wrapped them in plastic wrap and put them in the fridge. I then decided to take Burt and Ernie to the dog park for their walk before dinner. I put on the water for the noodles. I heard Bette come out of the room and then she walked up behind me and snaked her arms around my waist. I leaned back into her as she put her chin on my shoulder. This felt incredible.

Bette: What can I do to help?

Tina: How about opening the wine and pour us a glass while we finish the dinner.

Bette:  I think I can handle that.

I handed her the bottle of Merlot and the cork remover and then got out two glasses.  She then poured the wine and handed me a glass.

    Bette: How about a toast?

Tina: Sure; what do you want to toast to?

Bette:  A toast to us: may we have a wonderful weekend together.

    Tina:  To Us.

I remember I set the table while the noodles were cooking. The sauce began to fill the kitchen with its delightful smell. I then put the salads and the salad dressings on the table and waited for the noodles to finish. I turn down the sauced and we were just chatting in the kitchen. Before I put the noodles on, I asked Bette if she wanted to accompany me to walk the dogs and then I would feed them. I would then take them on a long walk at the end of the evening before we retired.  She smiled and was glad to walk around a little.

So, I harnessed up the dogs and took them to the elevator and we started down the street to the dog park. I lead them around until they had peed four or five times each. They felt it their duty to mark every place possible that this was their park. I told Bette that they were now ready for their dinner. She asked if she could handle the leads while I got the doors and the elevator. I could tell that Bette was really fond of Burt and Ernie. I guess she really missed her Gretchen.

      • Janice24,

First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.

From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?

Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…

      • OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
