Bette slowly turned on her heel, arms akimbo. “Actually, I was hiring from Billings, but I just wasn’t happy about people I was seeing. Then I got really, really busy with everything else, dealing with the construction and everything, I just kept postponing the hiring thing!”
They all laughed as Bette knocked herself on the side of the head. “If you girls aren’t heading to your colleges, yet, would you like to help me out here?”
They nodded eagerly, and the blonde one asked again, “Is this your first time running a café?”
Bette laughed out loud. “Don’t tell anyone. I haven’t run anything like this in my life.”
The shortest among the three interrupted her. “Miss, look, we’ve worked for baristas in Sacramento, while we visited with friends and relatives. Got training in the training center in Sightglass in San Francisco. Be that as it may, if you don’t mind my saying, you should vet your employees first. Including us three.”
Bette shook her head, smiling. She pulled a pen and a block of post-its from her bag. “You’re right. Of course. Okay, can you please give me your details?”
The assertive blonde one took the pen and post-its from her, smiling also. “I’m Sam, by the way.”
“Jennifer,” the short one introduced herself. She self-consciously tugged at her pony-tail as she spoke. “But you can call me Jenn.”
The tallest one, a pretty auburn-haired athletic type gave Bette a quick smile before giving her name. “And I’m Jordan. Or Jordie.”
“Her mom’s the only one who calls her Jordan,” the blonde one teased her friend, playfully punching her on the arm.
Bette had to smile at that. The three of them seemed to have an easy, laid-back relationship, but were clearly tight-knit as a group. They seemed to finish each other’s sentences unconsciously, at times talking at the same time, and they were reminiscing now about their time as baristas last summer. She and Kaci had been like that before, and they hung out all the time when they both decided to go to Cal-Berkeley for college, going everywhere together, the way these three seemed to, also.
“And I’m Bette,” she said, her stomach tightening when she realized she’d just used her real name. It had rolled off so naturally. Must be because I was thinking about Kaci. She remembered that when she’d bought the place, she’d used another identity. “That’s my nickname, at least,” she hastened to add.

Skydancer, thank you for the update.
I was certain you would bring Tina in the café to meet Bette. But maybe it is Tina and she had to change her name too and needed to hide.
Lena or Tina doesn’t matter at the, moment, Bette can use some tender loving to reliesh her stress.
Tina’s coming ;-) but she’s not Lena. Not quite sure how to pull of a TLC scene for Bette yet without the Google police making things difficult for @Jacky. Any ideas?
Nice chapter, skydancer. In some email exchanges with @Jacky, she’s passed on to me that she doesn’t expect, nor want writers to self-censor. Just write what you want and let the chips fall where they may. Gotta love that woman. I would just avoid keywords that would be caught by any sniffer. I’m sure you have an idea of what words might attract attention. Other than that, I say bring on the TLC!
*off not of
Don’t worry about the site in terms of Google. Post without hesitation. This will all work out!
Really like this so far. If not mistaken, in the first chapter, I believe that I read that a film crew would be in the area very soon. So if you didn’t change Tinas’ occupation, then that is when she will show up. Right? Must go back and read that first chapter for some clarification of all this. Thanks for sharing. Can hardly wait for Tina to appear.
Why is Google going after this site?
Hi @Jane, I was referring to warning or instructions you see when you start to post a new chapter or story. The warning is new, and informs you that Google is screening for mature content in the text, not just in pics that are posted. Since the site relies on Google providing a platform for it (I think), I took it seriously. I also took it to mean Google is screening other posted chapters (and I’ve posted a bunch of chapters with sexy scenes, so ….). But @Jacky is saying not to worry, so, I guess that means I can (?) does that clear it up for you?
Enjoyed it, thanks
Hmmm, very, very interesting. Our favorite girls having to survive in a Red State, living underground, and communicating thru code! Sort of like life right now! Again. Please keep writing so I can relive this
